The goal of ACMP’S Mentoring Program is to empower young ladies and young men by guiding them to discover the power within. Our goal is to provide guidance and counseling services to young ladies and young men who have experience childhood adversities that is causing them to struggle in their day to day life. We will provide direct services and resources to under-served youth that will aide them in taking the next best steps for their development.
Program Goals
Serve students in the areas of character building:
Develop good character to prevent adverse problems such as aggression and antisocial related behaviors, drug use/abuse, sexual activity, academic under-achievement, and truancy related issues.
Explore family history and positive traits about self. Create opportunities for students to be actively and meaningfully involved in life and in school. Mentor will model positive behavior. Build caring and supportive relationships.
Social & Emotional skills:
Increase the frequency of responsible and positive social behaviors.
Teach essential social and emotional skills. Arrange for the students to participate in group activities to improve her social judgment and interpersonal skills.
Behavioral Management:
Recognize and verbalize how feelings are connected to misbehavior.
Teach the students effective communication and assertiveness skills to express feelings in a controlled fashion and to meet her needs through more constructive actions.
Academic Readiness:
Implement effectively study skills, which increase the frequency of completion of school assignments and improve academic performance.
Help students identify specific academic goals and steps needed to accomplish goals.
